Apps to keep teens busy during the summer

Teenagers are always on the lookout for something to do during the summer break. Although there are lots of ways to keep the youth engaged, the one which is growing in popularity is mobile apps. If you have a smart-phone with iOS or Android, all you need to do is download some creative, fun and interesting apps that will help you curb the loss of knowledge and continue to learn in the summer. Here are three of the best.

ISSLive

This new app from NASA lets you see what the astronauts do minute-by-minute while they are actually on the space station. The app gives you an inside look at what is happening aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and in the Mission Control Center at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Beneficial for both teachers and students, the app lets you tour the space station and mission control operator consoles through virtual 3-D models. Through this app, you’ll know get the latest details on communications, temperature and power generation from the space station. The app features: descriptions and educational material that describe how the space station works –and even educational lessons using the live content. According to NASA, the objective of ISSLive is to raise public awareness of the “groundbreaking research and technology development work going on every day in the microgravity environment of space.”

If you are one of those who likes to listen to some of the great thinkers in our society then TED is sure to amaze you. The app allows users to browse, bookmark and watch full library of over 1,100 TEDTalks videos, ranging from 3 to 18 minutes in length, of tech geniuses, medical mavericks, business gurus and music legends, who entertain and enlighten the world with their ideas, inventions and performances. TED is a non-profit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading” which is why both the IOS and Android apps are free. Undoubtedly, the app promises to be a great source of inspiring videos ranging from Steve Job talking about how to live your life or Bill Gates speaking about energy. TED’s user interface is intuitive, and it smoothly delivers audio and video. Besides the search option, you can also check out what’s the popular content. Overall, it is an app worth a download.

Temple Run Brave

Temple Run Brave, inspired by the new Disney movie “Brave”, is an engaging and interesting app. The title is similar to the original Temple Run, but to differentiate the developers have added Merida’s skill, Archery, onto the game. This will help you earn extra points by hitting the targets rightly. The app also features new controls that let players to turn, jump and slide by swiping the screen. Likewise, Imangi, the developers of Temple Run, have changed the visuals to more colorful, inspired by the film’s setting. There’s an overall enhancement in the gameplay as well. The new environment is inspired by Disney/Pixar Brave and the wilds of Scotland. Also, instead of monkeys you now need to outrun Mordu, the demon bear. Although Brave may not become as popular as the original title, but like other movie tie-in games, it adds an interesting twist to the game.
